Happy August, RMASFAA!
It’s hard to believe that summer is winding down and students will be arriving back on campus in a few short weeks. In my world, this time of year always feels a little like this… (cue ‘Night of the Living Dead’ music here):
But in spite of the occasional night terrors, I will admit that it is both exciting and rewarding to be gearing up for another school year. Working in higher education is truly invigorating, and I’m grateful to play a small part in helping our students find success and reach their goals.
At this time of year, I also look forward to change and progress in the wonderful world of RMASFAA. I’m pleased to publicly congratulate our newly elected officers for 2015-16, who will begin serving on the Board this coming October:
- Vicki Kucera from Central Community College (NE), President-Elect
- Starla Russell from Western Dakota Technical Institute (SD), Vice President
- Donna Carter from Wichita State University (KS), Treasurer
- Denise Grayson from Dakota State University (SD), Secretary
- Robb Cummings from Sallie Mae (KS), Associate Member Delegate
What an impressive group! I’m confident that each of these members is well prepared to serve and will be dedicated to moving the work of our Association and profession forward. Please join me in supporting them in the coming year.
I’m also happy to announce that RMASFAA will be hosting our first-ever webinar the first week of October. I am extremely pleased with the top-notch presenter and very pertinent topic, and I express sincere appreciation to Robb Cummings and Susan Stephenson for their help in making this happen. Please watch the website and listserv for details that will be released soon!
Last but certainly not least, I can’t wait to see you all at RMASFAA’s annual conference! This year’s conference will be held October 11-14 at the beautiful Westin Hotel in Westminster, CO. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to register for the conference and book your travel arrangements soon. The conference committee has been hard at work preparing for a week of networking and learning (and some good old-fashioned, knock-down, drag-out wedding drama you won’t want to miss!). Please visit theknot.com/us/rmasfaa2015 for fun details and to see a list of the awe-inspiring wedding planners (aka conference committee), as well as the sordid details of James Broscheit’s love for riding lawnmowers, the secrets of Tom Biedscheid’s parasol collection, and a truly frightening picture of Rob Drybread. (Friendly tip: don’t mess with the wedding planners! They make Fränk from ‘Father of the Bride’ look like an amateur.)
As we count the last precious days of summer, may we all take a few moments to smile and be grateful that we don’t have homework assignments like this looming over us (posted under “Best Homework Assignment Ever” online):
If you’re feeling wild and crazy, give #6 a try and let me know how it goes. Thanks for reading and all my best to you and your offices during this busy time. It’s sure to be a fall semester to remember!
