Happy Holidays Everyone!
It’s hard to believe the fall semester and 2013 are rapidly drawing to a close! It’s even harder for me to believe that I’m almost two months in to my new role as RMASFAA President! As we approach the start of a new year this seems like a good time for me to share my goals and visions as RMASFAA President.
One of my main goals this coming year is for all of us to think about what it is that we want and need from RMASFAA over the next 3-5 years. Now more than ever, members expect value and return on investment from their association ties. I want us to look to the future and define not only who we are as an association, but how we do things. As part of the transitional board meetings in October, I challenged the 2013 – 2014 board members to think about their respective roles on the board (as committee chairs, officers, and state delegates) and the programs and services they will provide over the course of this next year. I challenged them to think how we might structure and deliver some of those programs and services in a different way, taking into consideration our member market, generational differences, competition and technology.
Another one of my goals is to involve new people in RMASFAA. It is my hope to not only increase new members who join RMASFAA for the first time, but also to get more current RMASFAA members actively involved in leadership roles, working on committees and participating in various association activities.
Communicating to the membership on a regular basis is another goal. Much of this communication regarding association business and activities will be shared via postings on the RMASAA Blog. The Association News Committee will be working with each of the respective committee chairs and officers to submit an update during the year of their respective activities.
In addition, I will be working with the state delegates to collect feedback from our state associations as to how RMASFAA can better align and coordinate activities at the state and regional levels.
And one final goal is to begin work to update RMASFAA’s Strategic Directions Plan. During the course of this year, the Association Governance Committee will begin planning for our upcoming Strategic Directions Plan which will need to be voted on and approved at the annual conference in the Fall of 2015. The questions we ask and the data we gather from all of you throughout this next year will be instrumental in that process.
And obviously it takes a great team to accomplish the goals that have been outlined above. I am happy to assure all of you that we have a great team in place with this year’s 2013-2014 Board of Directors and all of the committee members that have agreed to serve!
I am very humbled and honored to serve as President of RMASFAA on your behalf and am looking forward to a great year ahead!
