RMASFAA Spring Board of Directors Meeting – submitted by Jeff Jacobs, RMASFAA President

RMASFAA 2013 BOD funnyRMASFAA 2013 BODThe RMASFAA board of directors met on March 1st and 2nd in Denver Colorado. The board was presented with a change in agenda structure in that President Jeff Jacobs proposed that we follow a consent agenda versus the typical structure following Robert’s Rules of Order. Utilizing the consent agenda frees up a great deal of time by eliminating the process of reading officer, state delegate and committee reports at the meeting. The expectation of a consent agenda is that all meeting attendees will read the reports before the meeting and come to the meeting prepared to discuss the more pertinent issues derived from the posted reports. As a side note, if you are interested in reviewing the reports, the reports are available under the leadership tab on the RMASFAA web page.
It appears that all board members were pleased with the consent agenda as many commented after the meeting how much more information we covered and we were able to get into more detail with specific items during discussions. Some of the discussion items included:
• How does the associations at the state and regional levels increase volunteerism for officer and committee positions? All in attendance agreed that we all need to do a better job of notifying individuals that you don’t have to be a director to be involved and ALL contributions and volunteerism that is currently being done and will be done is appreciated!!
• The board recommended to post contracts on our web site as it would be beneficial for future committee chairs to see what other contracts include such as for conference planning? It was agreed that the contacts could be referenced to help with planning the event before a contract is negotiated.
• There was also a discussion that centered on the topic of how to increase subscribers to the RMASFAA Blog. We discovered that our Association cannot just sign a member up for the Blog as the individual needs to complete that task himself. So we are asking members to go to the Blog site and sign up as a subscriber by indicating your email address and clicking on the “Sign Me Up” button.
Other topics during the consent agenda that were discussed included reaching out to our business officer community inviting them to state conferences, how to handle lapsed memberships, and how to move forward with storing of archived data either using cloud storage or external storage. So, overall I would say that the meeting went well and everybody voiced his or her opinion during discussions.
Additionally, the membership committee is continuing the process of studying our dues structure. It was agreed by the board that a membership dues increase will not be proposed for this year. The board is however exploring the possibility of utilizing some reserves to possibly purchase a product or two to enhance our membership benefits such as “You Tube” videos or something similar. The training committee will be exploring some products and reporting back to the board in October.
There were several By-Laws changes that were also presented to the board and the board of directors voted to include these proposed By-Laws changes to the membership during our annual meeting. Other business conducted during the meeting included a request by the finance and audit committee to move some operating funds to unrestricted reserves, voting on four new/lapsed memberships, a proposal to change the leadership structure of the leadership pipeline committee and a request to collect ethnicity information along with race as part of the membership information.
I want to thank you all for providing me the opportunity to serve as your president. It is an honor and a privilege and I am certainly enjoying myself. Look for future Blog posts and list serve posts related to our nomination and elections process as RMASFAA is currently seeking nominations for President Elect, Treasurer, Associate Member Delegate, Vice President and Secretary. If you are interested in running for any one of the above mentioned positions, do not hesitate to nominate yourself. The officer nomination form is located under the forms tab on the RMASFAA web site.
