UASFAA Spotlight

Hello from Utah!  Where has the summer gone? I can’t believe that Fall is right around the corner.  Seems like just yesterday we were starting to receive 12/13 FAFSAs, struggling with verification changes, and keeping our fingers crossed that Pell Grant funding would hold steady!

Things have been going well in UASFAA over the last several months.

In April, we held our annual conference, “Navigating the financial aid labyrinth” at Salt Lake Community College. Our Conference Chair, Amanda Jacobsen and our Program Chair, Cristi Millard (both from SLCC) did an amazing job putting together a fun and informational conference. The conference began with an enlightening Keynote address given by Dr. Kyle Reyes from Utah Valley University.  Deb Tarpley delivered great information during the federal update, and we were excited to have Megan McClean from NASFAA joining us again this year. The conference concluded with a leadership panel who promoted the Leadership Pipeline, while encouraging involvement in State, Regional and National financial aid organizations.

The UASFAA board announced at the conference a new scholarship program to grow leaders within our state. We are pleased to announce that Chelsea Springer, from the University of Utah, is the first recipient of the Mike Johnson Leadership Scholarship, which will cover her expenses to attend RMASFAA in Omaha and participate in the Leadership Pipeline.

Our committees are working very hard to continue to grow our membership, keep the website updated, plan new training events and disseminate the news to our members.  We appreciate all the hard work all our volunteers do for UASFAA.  I’m looking forward to a great year.

I wish you all a very smooth and successful Fall!

Sincerely,

Amy Capps
UASFAA President
Assistant Director
