KASFAA Spotlight-Donna Carter-KASFAA President

February 1, 2012

Today is the first day of February and there should be snow on the ground, but it is a warm 63 degree day and this July baby is not complaining.   KASFAA members have been busy the past several months below are a few highlights.

The conference planning committee held the Fall 2011 KASFAA Superheroes Training October 27 and 28.  A few of the sessions included a Federal Update by David Bartlett, Financial Literacy, Gainful Employment, Managing Debt, Delinquency and Default and Satisfactory Academic Progress.  We had 109 members attend and this included 23 members attending their 1st KASFAA training. I want to thank Stephanie Covington, Thad Davidson and all of our presenters for giving back to KASFAA.  I am looking forward to our Spring 2012 Conference that will be held in Topeka on April 25, 26 and 27th.

The training committee held High School Counselor Training November 11 through November 14 at 12 different sites around the state.  They had 310 high school counselors attend.  I want to thank Linda Oldham Burns, Janet Dodson, Kathy Blau, Crystal Crank, Angela Zeorlin, Diana Van Dyke, Julie Blanken, Stephanie Delong, Elaine Henry, Diane Lindeman, Christensen, Carol Prim, Sara Vancil and LaVerne Schmidt for their willingness to give of their time to this great training opportunity.

The elections for the 2012 – 2013 officers were also held this past fall and I am pleased to announce the following:   President Elect is Tony Lubbers, Vice President is Brenda Krehbiel, and Secretary is Cindy Kleinsorge and Treasurer Keith Fitzsimmons.

At this busy time of year, I just want to say a big THANK YOU, to all the KASFAA members for Helping To Make A Difference One Student At A Time.
